It can be tricky to connect devices that do not have built in web browsers to a hotel WiFi network or other so-called 'Captive Portals.'
Essentially what you need to do it set a laptop's MAC address to match the iGateMini, connect the laptop to the captive portal network, accept any conditions and set your laptop's MAC address back to the original. You should then be able to connect the iGateMini to the network. There are a wide variety of such networks so your milage may vary. Here is an article that discusses how it can be done: Here is an article that may help.
There variety of reasons that can prevent you from connecting. Here are some things you can try:
As a generall rule - if the device cannot connect to any network, either wired or wireless then it will enable it's access point mode and will be availabe to accept connections that way.
When the iGateMini is connected to a network and obtains an IP address, it will flash the IP address on the status LED
Try to connect in a browser with http://igatemini.local or http://IPADDRESS where IPADDRESS is the IP that is flashing on the status LED. (the easier "igatemini.local" name may not work on all networks)
The phone or computer that you are using to connect to the iGateMini must be one the same network as the iGateMini. For example if your iGateMini is connected to your home network, then your phone must also be connected to your home network.
The iGateMini saves WiFi networks that it has connected to in the past. If it can see both networks it will randomly connect to one of them. Saved networks can be 'forgotten' in the Network Settings page.
There is a reset button on the side where the antenna connections are. Look for a small hole and, while powered on, insert a paperclip or some other suitable object and hold this button down for at least 15 seconds. After 15 seconds the status LED will flash rapidly - release the button at this point. All logs and configuration files will be erased and the device will reboot.
You should receive the iGateMini device itself, a stubby VHF and a 2.4GHz WiFi antenna. You may have optionally received a wired GPS antenna and/or a SMA to SO-239 adapter.
The iGateMini can only connect to 2.4Ghz networks. Available WiFi networks are searched once during bootup and there is a small chance that, at that exact moment, your desired network was not visible. Simple remove power, wait a few seconds and try again.
We've found that most issues are related to power and the quality of the power device used. While the iGateMini doesn't consume a lot of power on average there can be occasionally be higher power demands depending on WiFi conditions and activity. We recommend using a known high quality USB power adapter and cable. We've test this power adapter and this USB cable and found they work reliably.
The red status LED continuously flashes the current IP address when connection to a network, either wired or wireless.
It will flash once for the number 1, two flashes for two and so on. A zero is indicated by a relativly long flash and a decimal point is indicated by two very quick flashes.
For example the IP address 192.168.0.44 would look like this:
Eight very quick flashes to indicate the start of the IP address
1 One flash 9 Nine flashes 2 Two flashes . Two quick flashes 1 One flash 6 Six flashes 8 Eight flashes . Two quick flashes 0 One long flash . Two quick flashes 4 Four flash 4 Four flashes
It's recommended to have a paper and pen ready. Pay close attention to the light and write the numbers as you count them.
